Louhi ride

The Louhi Ride is designed for drummers who favor tone, nuance, and musical subtlety — a cymbal that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards listening. These rides are quite dark and dry sounding, yet open easily when asked, offering a pleasing wash without overwhelming the mix.

Born from a special collaboration with the “Matka Rumpujen Maailmaan” drum channel, the Louhi project aimed to create a ride that felt at home in quieter venues, studio environments, and more introspective musical settings. Once the second, “chosen one” prototype was perfected, it became clear the Louhi Ride had unique musical value — ideal for genres like jazz, blues, or any setting where tone depth is prized.

Available in 18″, 20″, 21″, and 22″, these rides are built in a medium-thin weight class. The ride weights approximate: 20″ around 2000 g, 21″ about 2200 g, and 22″ about 2400 g.  This weight strikes a balance: light enough to respond dynamically, heavy enough to maintain presence and control. The raw finish enhances the dry, controlled character.

Tonally, Louhi rides sit in a mid-low to low pitch range, with a quite long to medium sustain (depending on strike and cymbal size), and volume rated from medium to medium-low.What sets them apart is how they open: even though the sound is dry, the ride can bloom when played with confidence, giving a musical wash that doesn’t dominate.

Within the Sihi family, the Louhi series is often affectionately referred to as the Sysi series’ “dry uncle”, offering a drier, more subtle voice than many of the brighter cymbals in the lineup.
